Sunshine Charter School’s mission is to create an academically rigorous and culturally enriching educational environment that prepares students for success in college and their future careers by graduating multi-lingual, life-long learners who are intellectually curious, culturally competent, have an international perspective, strong moral character, and a sense of responsibility toward the community and the environment, and who are empowered to understand their roles in society, possessing the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to challenge and transform systems, unlocking the potential of an inclusive and united community.

A Charter School is a school established to provide students and parents with more choices in the types of educational opportunities and programs that are available within the public school system. The Legislature provides for charter schools through the California Charter Schools Act (1992)

The founding team of Sunshine Charter School in Sacramento consists of experienced and respected Afghan educators who previously established and successfully ran Afghanistan’s first private TK-12 school, Sunshine Private School, as well as Sunshine (Tolo-e-Aftab) University. Both institutions are highly regarded and well-ranked, known for their innovative educational model that combines international standards with respect for local culture and values.
After years of success in Afghanistan, the founders, now living in the Sacramento area, identified a need for a Farsi Immersion and Pashto Language Development charter school in Sacramento, California. Drawing on their expertise, they are now in the process of establishing Sunshine Charter School to fulfill this vision. This new school will continue their legacy, offering a unique bilingual program in Dari and Pashto, along with a comprehensive curriculum that fosters intellectual and cultural growth.
